George Robert Elliott, 95, was known to many as Joe Bob.

He passed away peacefully on March 8, 2019, with his family by his side.

He was born in Ardmore, Alabama and raised in Athens, Alabama by James D. and Alice Elliott. He was so inspired to serve his country that he was one of the first in Limestone County to voluntarily join the Armed Services.

Captain Elliott spent four years in the Air Force serving as a pilot. This is when he met the love of his life, Joyce Baker, on a blind date in San Antonio, Texas. They were married on July 20, 1945, and were married for 73 years. Joe Bob spent 46 years owning and operating Greenbrier Gin and Warehouse.

In 1969 he received the Harold Hayden Memorial Trophy. He always enjoyed a good game of cards with his friends and loved going out in his boat to spend time with his second love--fishing.

Joe Bob is survived by his children; Jacquelyn Schaffer of Warner Robins, GA, Denise Nash of Athens, AL, Eric Elliott of Athens, AL, and Joe Elliott of Athens, AL. He was loved by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
