J. D. Mefford, 84 of Athens died Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Huntsville Hospital.

Services will be 2PM Friday at First Church Athens (Lie-in-State 1:30-2PM Friday at church) with Bruce Johnson and Rick Craft officiating, burial in Roselawn Cemetery, visitation is from 5-8PM Thursday at Spry Funeral Home. 

Mr. Mefford was born February 13, 1934 in Madison County, he was a member of the First Church, he was a U.S. Army Veteran and he was a retired Carpenter.

Survivors: Wife: Shirley Mefford of Athens, Sons: Randy Mefford of Cullman, Jeffery Mefford of Priceville, Barry Pylant of Athens and Michael Pylant of Athens, Daughters: Sonya Frix of Athens, Amanda Blankenship of Athens, Debbie Pierce of Smith Station, AL. And Dana Goolsby of Athens, Brother: Larry Mefford of Owens Cross Roads. Sixteen Grandchildren, Eleven Great Grandchildren, One Great Great Grandson.

 Grandsons will be pallbearers.
